District information officer Siti Mariam Mahdar said the contest is divided into three language categories: Bahasa Malaysia, English and Chinese.

The theme is ‘Sarawak Economy and Social Transformation: Challenge and Success’.

“Each contestant is eligible to enter one category only for Bahasa Malaysia, English or Chinese feature writing,” she told The Borneo Post yesterday.

Siti Mariam said participant is prohibited to touch on personal issue or religion and other sensitive sentiments in their writing.

“Every article has to be original and not plagiarised from any source and the organiser has the right to reject any entry. The reference source has to be acknowledged in the article,” she added.

All three categories offer a cash prize of RM1,200 to the champion while RM1,000 and RM800 for second and third placed respectively.
