Suspects in attack on Tham’s car identified – police

KOTA KINABALU: Police have identified the suspects involved in a Molotov cocktail attack on the car of former Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Tham Nyip Shen when it was parked under a tree at Taman Hill Top in Luyang on Monday.

Acting city police chief Superintendent Hj Ramli Ali Mat yesterday said police believe the case will be solved soon.

“It is just a matter of time before the suspects are apprehended,” he told a press conference at the city police headquarters in Karamunsing here yesterday.

Ramli said Tham was at the city police station on Monday after returning from an overseas trip to assist police in their investigation.

“Initial police investigation shows that there were many personal and political motives in this case and police are carrying out a thorough investigation,” he said.

It is learnt that Tham had on Monday night immediately went to the police station to give his statement after his return from Hong Kong.

In the 10am incident, the four-wheel-drive vehicle belonging to Tham was badly burnt after what is believed to be a Molotov cocktail was hurled into it.
