Science and Technology Act to be implemented next year

PUTRAJAYA: The Science and Technology Act which is scheduled for first reading in July will be implemented next year after being passed by Parliament, Science, Technology and Innovation Minister Datuk Seri Dr Maximus Ongkili said yesterday.

He said that a laboratory to provide inputs for the proposed act would be established soon, consisting of civil servants, private sector representatives and members of professional bodies.

“The lab will receive and provide inputs to formulate policy on science and technology,” he told reporters after opening a dialogue session on the formulation of the policy and act at the Putrajaya International Convention Centre here.

Ongkili had said that the ministry was reviewing the present policy to gear science and technology to business needs. — Bernama
