SIBU: Police have a lead on the case where a Molotov cocktail was thrown at a police inspector’s car, resulting in a fire which damaged the driver’s door.

BACK TO THE LOCKUP: Policemen escort the five suspects back to the police station.

They checked a CCTV belonging to a shop and the footage showed a man speeding off on a motorcycle from the back lane of Tuanku Osman Road on Friday morning.

Sibu police chief ACP Shafie Ismail believed the incident was related to a gunshot fired at a house in Maludan Road at midnight on May 10.

Police yesterday re-arrested five men whom they believed were responsible for the gunshot, but released one.

The five, who had been ordered released, were immediately re-arrested.

While two local pressmen were photographing them, one of the five suspects spoke in Foochow that they would burn their cars in retaliation for snapping their photos.

One of the suspects’ elder brother at Sibu Police Station glared at the pressmen when they carried on taking photos of his sibling.

The pressmen did not rule out the possibility of lodging a police report against the suspect for threatening them.

Earlier, police arrested the six men, aged 38 to 50, and seized from them a ‘bakakok’ (home-made shotgun) on the day of the gunshot incident.
