Eradication of poverty, healthy living is govt’s priority — Pang

SANDAKAN: Minister of Youth and Sport, Datuk Peter Pang En Yin said, the Barisan Nasional-led government would constantly monitor and help the needy to ensure a better quality of life for them.

The Karamunting assemblyman said, “The government, through the Social Welfare Department, has provided various assistance to the less fortunate people,” when officiating at the opening of a ‘Juara Rakyat’ programme here at Nam Tung town yesterday.

“The government will continuously urge the poor and needy to register for the ‘e-kasih’ programme to ensure that all forms of assistance can be channelled directly to them,” he said, adding that to erase poverty by 2020 is one of the priorities set by the government. The government not only emphasises on the eradication of poverty but also urge the people to live healthy.

“Therefore, a youth and sport development centre has been in operation at Pasir Putih, giving equal opportunity to all to adopt a healthy lifestyle,” he said hoping that the centre will strengthen the social relationship among the residents. — Bernama

During the programme, a total of 107 recipients comprising of underprivileged children and senior citizens were handed with assistance from the Department of Social Welfare.

The ceremony was also attended by Sekong assemblyman, Datuk Samsudin Yahya.
