KUCHING: Japan’s leading wood interiors Wood One Co Ltd (Wood One) is now available in Sarawak with the appointment of Acacia Enterprise (Acacia) as its sole distributor for its products such as flooring as well as wood panels for profile walls.

With a history dating back as far as 1935, Wood One retained a formidable track record in the wood industry of Japan. With its headquarters based in Hiroshima, and forests in New Zealand, the brand is now distributed globally.

“With the desire to cut down on waste, the company has developed into a massive timber business that is vertically integrated from forests to the finished products,” Japan Standard Sdn Bhd (Japan Standard) managing director John Hew  told thesundaypost in an interview recently.

Japan Standard is the sole distributor and importer of Wood One products in Malaysia-Brunei.

“The East Malaysian market is indeed very big and largely untapped. Seeing this as an opportunity, we are glad to have Acacia Enterprise as the sole distributor here. We believe the people here are always looking for better quality wood products,” added Hew.

He further pointed out that Wood One was currently the largest wood making company in Japan. The company uses real veneer engineering board, resulting in low formaldehyde and volatile organic compounds, both of which causes health hazard if the chemical contents were too high in its finishing products.

Wood One’s operating officer and general manager for overseas sales division, Kunio Tamiya added, “All our finishing products are engineered to precise design specifications which are tested to meet the  national and international standards. Engineered wood are very stable and offer greater structural strength than natural woof building materials.

“Engineered wood products are stronger than solid wood products of the same dimension and offer great efficiency of the natural resource by allowing the use of smaller of lower quality pieces, while permitting both longer and stronger spans,” Tamiya explained.

Wood One forests are certified and managed according to the internationally recognised environmental standards. Juken New Zealand, Wood One’s subsidiary company that manages the forest in New Zealand, is FSC-certified.

“The FSC standards represent the world’s strongest system for guiding forest management towards sustainable outcomes. Its scope span economic, social an environmental concerns. FSC standards for forest management have now been applied in over 57 countries,” Hew revealed.

Located at Lorong 3F1, Batu Kawa New Township, Acacia as its sole distributor in Sarawak was already set for public viewing.

“We cater for budget customers looking for nice flooring, but for those who own detached houses ane are looking for quality products, they can also go for Wood One because it is made from real wood,” highlighted its business coordinator Roy Thian Fatt Loi.

“Laminated floors are not made from real wood. There are differences and customers often get this wrong as they are not well-informed by developers. We have come across developers who wanted good flooring for their clients, but get them mixed up as there are a lot of other flooring products available in the market,” he added.

“We hope to be able to educate the public and allow them to compare the floorings available. This will enable them to have better choices to choose from,” Thian concluded.
