GEORGE TOWN: The Football Association of Penang (FAP) has decided to drop seven players from the Penang Premier League squad due to lack of consistency in their performances.

The FAP president Datuk Seri Zahrain Mohd Hashim said the decision was made following their poor performances throughout the season for the Penang team that is currently languishing at the bottom of the Premier League table.

“The decision to rest them will not affect the overall performance of the team since they have not performed up to expectations,” he told reporters here last night.

He said the seven who were dropped are Hafizi Roslee, Mohd Arif Fazlie Saidin, S Sathiakumaran, Mohd Arsyah Mohd Ayob, Mohd Rizal Ahmad, Rahmad Najib Din and Megat Amir Faizal Alkhalidy Ibrahim.

After 18 matches, Penang have yet to win a single match.

Zahrain said Penang had also appointed a new coach in Ahmad Yusof, a former international and former Kedah coach, to replace Robert Scully whose services was terminated last month.

“We have also brought in eight new players to replace them. With their inclusion we hope to see better results,” he said. The newcomers are Muhammad Wazir Che Ani, 23, S Veenod, 23, Shaiful Azizi Anuar, 22, A Muniandy, 31, B Thinagaran, R Gajantheran, R Puganeswaren and Syamil Masdhoki. — Bernama
