MIRI: Computer Sales and Services Association Sarawak (CSSA) Miri branch was urged to play an active role and be a part of the Information Communication Technology (ICT) development process in the state.

Miri mayor Lawrence Lai said the association had to be sensitive to ICT-related development implemented by the government namely e-banking, e-payment, e-learning, e-shopping, e-mail, e-book, e-phone, e-commerce, e-news, e-ticketing and e-government.

“I can see a surge in the numbers of users of such services,” he said when officiating at CSSA Miri branch Appreciation Night cum Installation of new office-bearers at Eastwood Valley Golf and Country Club (EVGCC) yesterday.

Lai hopes the association will play an active role in the development of projects proposed and implemented by the government.

He hopes the association will be a consultative partner with the government on how best to develop the ICT industry in Miri.

“The government is now working to turn Malaysia into a high income economy so you must play your part by raising your expertise and skills in the ICT industry.

“Your ideas and suggestions will be greatly appreciated and I hope can be implemented, especially to benefit Mirians,” he remarked.

On other issue, he said the association has partnered Miri City Council (MCC) in organising e-waste recycling campaign in the city.

The association is also committed to bridge the digital divide in the local arena by jointly organising Sarawak ICT Expo with local councils in the state.

Later, Lai witnessed the association’s installation of new office-bearers.
