KUALA LUMPUR: Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad is responding well to medication and physiotherapy administered at the National Heart Institute (IJN), his special officer Sufi Yusoff said.

The former prime minister is also eating well and doctors are happy with his rate of response to treatment, according to Sufi.

“He will continue to receive intravenous antibiotic treatment and intensive chest physiotherapy and is expected to continue to remain in IJN for the next few days,” Sufi said in a statement.

Dr Mahathir was admitted for chest infection yesterday after a bout of cough and fever.

Sufi said doctors had also advised the former prime minister against receiving visitors, except for close family members. – Bernama
