KUCHING: 3,000 fans are expected to throng the State Indoor Stadium at Petra Jaya as CATS FM organises its grandest Anugerah Juara Rentak Ruai (AJARR) tonight (May 21).

CATS FM general manager Mohd Iskandar Nawawi said anticipation was running high for AJARR that aimed to find the best Iban song for 2010.

With its pre-Gawai theme, he said AJARR 2010 promised to amaze the crowd at the highly secured stadium arena from its opening performance at 7pm until the end of the award show.

“We are very excited to bring AJARR 2010 to our loyal listeners. We are organising it in a bigger scale to coincide with our 15th anniversary on Aug 8. And we have a bigger number of finalists, 15 compared to 13 for AJARR 2009 plus additional award categories.

“In honouring our local artistes, we want to celebrate it together with our listeners and the fans and for those who could not join us at the stadium they can still be a part of this special event via the radio,” he said in a press release yesterday.

Apart from live broadcast on CATS FM, he said listeners could also access our website www.catsfm.my for live streaming of the awards.

“We assure you that it is as good as witnessing a live event because we are using a new technology from Germany provided by Salzbrenner Stagetec Mediagroup, which will allow listeners to get crisps, high quality sound, either at home or abroad.

“This strategic partnership allows us to also promote Iban music to the world. It is definitely the first for us and for the Iban music industry,” Iskandar said.

The event will also be attended by several media organisations from Kuala Lumpur. Iskandar said media personnel from TV3, NT7 and Media Hiburan were invited to cover AJARR 2010.

“In the future we’d probably extend the invitation to more media organisations including foreign ones, as we are serious in our commitment towards bringing the Iban music to a larger audience. Having said that we would like to work closely with all the local media on this quest,” Iskandar said.

Another highlight of AJARR 2010 will be a performance by Akademi Fantasia 7 winner Hafiz.

The KL-based Sarawakian is expected to sing three numbers to entertain the crowd before the announcement of award winners.

Apart from Hafiz, a Melanau rising star Caynie De whose catchy song Yen Ji Kaau is a fast favorite tune among the young, will also perform at the AJARR 2010 night. CATS FM presenters Ivy Ubang and Harniza Ahmad will host AJARR 2010. The entertaining duo are set to bring the house down with their witty banters.

There will 15 Iban songs vying for the Most Popular Song award and Best Song award in the finale tonight. They are Terumpang Pelepa Pengerindu by Urai; Semina Tinggal Janji – Hailey; Kudi Di Siang Hari – Gordon John; Dendam Enda Padam – Lucy M; Karakedai – Ebau; Lagu Lama Aku Suba – Rickie Andrewson; Uchu Tuai Rumah – Watson Jelai; Mina Nuan Penawar – Ita Medin; Entara Dua – Clemence Joys; Semina Aku Aja Nemu – James Ruai; Pinang Belah Tiga – Alon Lupeng; Vanessa – James Jacob; Agi Bekira – Christina; Telih Dimata Bedarah Diati – Stevenson; and Sinu – Masterpiece.
