GREAT BARGAINS: The Popular Book Fair is open from 10am to 9pm daily until June 5.
KUCHING: The Popular Book Fair is now on daily at the Permata Exhibition Hall from 10am to 9pm until June 5.
Popular Book Co (M) Sdn Bhd area manager Edmund Low said this year’s fair had been improved based on the overwhelming response to last year’s six-day fair.
“We are extending the duration of the book fair due to readers’ request, and offering wider selection as we have extended the fair area,” he said yesterday, adding that the fair has expanded from 6,000 square feet last year to 9,000 square feet.
The fair is offering a 25 per cent rebate for the purchase of any two selected best-selling fiction titles, a buy second at 50 per cent rebate for selected romance and chick lit titles, a wide range of nett priced books (50 to 70 per cent off) and selected self-improvement titles at RM10 each.
For children’s books, many titles are available at a 25 per cent rebate, including the Robin box set.
Robin Readers are specially written and designed with colourful illustrations accompanied with an interactive i-Pen, for children aged two to 10.
The i-Pen incorporates smart technology where aural scripts can be downloaded, allowing the words and sentences to be read aloud with a simple touch.
The new i-Pen has a built-in memory of 2GB and can be used as an MP3 player.
During the fair, the i-Pen is available for RM89 (normal price at RM160).
The Robin Readers and i-Pen are exclusive to Popular bookstores.
Educational games, Monami stationery, CDs, DVDs, printers and computer accessories are also available.
Readers can also apply or renew their membership on the spot. Each applicant will receive a freebie upon submission of the application form.
Popular Card members enjoy 10 per cent store-wide discounts at over 135 popular bookstores in Malaysia, Hong Kong, Singapore and CD-RAMA departments in Malaysia, and 20 per cent discount on monthly promotional titles and complimentary Pop Club magazine.
They also get special rebates on selected titles during nationwide promotions and book fairs.
There are currently six Popular outlets in Sarawak — three in Kuching, and one each in Sibu, Bintulu and Miri.
Low added that Popular will open a flagship store here with 15,000 square feet in September or October. “This will be the biggest bookstore in Borneo.”
Meanwhile, the much anticipated annual BookFest@Malaysia from Aug 27 to Sept 4 at KLCC aims to be the largest book expo in the region.
