SIBU: The quick reflex of a 54-year-old contractor had saved him from being involved in a potentially fatal accident in Selangau on Thursday morning.

The contractor, surnamed Wong, recalled how the incident occurred in Selangau Bazaar at about 11am.

Wong said he was driving his Toyota Hilux when a saloon car driven by an Iban came crashing into his vehicle.

“The driver of the saloon car was obviously under the influence of alcohol as he was driving dangerously and carelessly,” he alleged.

There were three passengers inside the car which Wong believed were all highly intoxicated.

Wong said he swerve his car to avert a likely collision.

He later learned that the group of Ibans were on a Gawai Dayak celebration spree and were returning to their longhouse then.
