LAHAD DATU: A 24-year-old driver was killed while three other persons were seriously hurt when a Proton Iswara Aeroback collided with an Isuzu Trooper at Km 20 Lahad Datu-Sandakan Road yesterday morning.
District police chief Superintendent Shamsudin Mat said the Proton Iswara driver identified as D Romianshyah D Julianshah, was killed on the spot while his passenger, Mohd Nazaruddin Bin Arisen, 21, suffered serious injuries.
The Isuzu Trooper driver, Datu Kasman Datu Sulaiman, 37, was seriously hurt while his passenger, Mukmin Hamzah, 29, suffered minor injuries.
Shamsudin said D Romianshyah and his friend were on the way to Lahad Datu from Kinabatangan when the accident occurred about 6.20am.
Initial police investigation revealed that the Proton Iswara driver lost control of the vehicle at a bend before straying onto the path of the Isuzu Trooper, he said.
The road was foggy during the accident and the three victims were sent to the district hospital.
Shamsudin added the case would be investigated under Section 41 (1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
