Pickpockets and robbers prey on the weak and vulnerable

KUCHING: An elderly woman lost her purse to a pickpocket at a shopping mall near the Fourth Mile.

The 68-year-old from Stampin area claimed that she found  her  purse  missing at about 2pm on Sunday when  she  wanted  to  pay  for things at the shopping mall.

She lost more than RM1,000 cash and a few hundred Australian dollars, bank cards and personal documents.

Suspecting her purse had been picked, she made a police report.

At about 11am  on  the  same day, a 25-year-old female student was robbed of a necklace worth RM800 at Jalan Wan Alwi, near a block of flats.

She claimed that two men on a  motorcycle extorted her with a knife while she was walking outside the flats.

She lost her necklace to the thieves but managed to keep her handbag.

She made a police report.

In an unrelated incident, a 26-year-old man from Kampung Semerah Padi, Petra Jaya had his nose injured in a skirmish with robbers.

In his report, he claimed that at 4am Sunday he was on his way home at Jalan Tan Sri Abg Ikhwan Zaini when a red Proton Saga grazed  his   motorcycle  when overtaking it, causing him to lose his balance and fall.

A man then came out from the car and dragged him into it.

Once inside the car, he threatened the motorcyclist with a knife and hit him.

The robbers took away his handphone worth about RM1,800.

He made his escape through the car window.
