‘Formation of OWC against family policy’

KUCHING: The formation of Obedient Wives Club (OWC) is against the objectives of the National Family Institution policy.

Therefore, it needed to be scrapped off to ensure harmony among families, said Minister in Chief Minister’s Department Datin Fatimah Abdullah.

Fatimah, when contacted yesterday said the whole idea of a marriage is not solely for sexual activities but marriage is an institution that binds the fabric of a functional society together.

“A good partnership is vital for husbands and wives to create a good marriage and serves a better purpose in accordance with the National Family Institutions policy,” she pointed out.

Fatimah, who is also in charge of women development added that the objectives of the so-called club is more personal in nature as they said they should “serve husbands better than a first class prostitute”.

She added that sex is just a secondary matter in a healthy family institution.

Other factors that have to be taken into consideration are good communication, understanding, compatibility and mutual respect between husband and wives.

“Both husbands and wives have their respective parts to play to uphold the marriage institution,” she said.

On a related development, state Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) Women also held a press conference at its Stampin office in Third Mile yesterday.

They demanded for a public apology from OWC vice-president Dr Rohaya Mohammad following a recent degrading statement on women.

State PKR Women chief Nurhanim Datuk Mohksen said she had asked Rohaya to apologise to the Malaysian men and women for the disgrace she had caused on the outrageous statement.

“This baseless and not statistic-proven remark is more a self opinion and personal view. It has never been endorsed and agreed by any school of thoughts as far as we are concerned,” she added.

Nurhanim mentioned that marriage failures are due to finance instability and lack of responsibility on the part of spouses.

She added that extra marital affairs are isolated cases and consist less than 30 per cent of the total amount of cases of marriage breakdowns.

She also said that there was no justification to set up such a club with the mere objective to “serve husbands better than a first class prostitute”.

Recently, OWC vice-president was quoted as saying that sex lesson would be offered by the club to wives in order to help promote a harmonious marriage and counter social ills. Dr Rohaya was also quoted saying that it was time sexual prowess took a front seat in marriage beyond the traditional “good mother or good cook” roles.

“A good or religious wife is also sexually good in bed. It is important to be a good sexual worker so that the husbands do not go to the prostitutes,” she was quoted as saying, adding that a husband who is kept happy in a bedroom would have no reason to seek out prostitutes or stray from marriage.
