PUTRAJAYA: Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Ismail Omar has confirmed that a member of the Jemaah Islamiah (JI) group was detained under the Internal Security Act (ISA) on Sunday at Kampung Batu Belah, Klang.
Ismail said the detention was made after police, who were monitoring the activities of Abdul Haris Syhuhadi, 63, a businessman from Indonesia found that he was a threat to national security.
He said Abdul Haris was now under detention for the purpose of investigation.
He was found to be spreading the JI ideology and actively recruiting new members to join the militant group in the country especially in Klang and Banting since 2002.
“Today, I confirm his detention. I believe his activities can endanger national security and we will take appropriate action,” he told reporters after opening the International Conference on Financial Criminology, here yesterday.
The two-day conference is jointly organised by the Faculty of Accounting, Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM), Accounting Research Institute (ARI) and the Association of Certified Anti-Money Lundering Specialist (ACAMS) with the theme Fraud Risk Management, Islamic Accountability and Anti-Money Laundering. — Bernama
