KUCHING: Burglars appeared to be having a field day recently with at least four break-ins affecting three houses and an office being reported to the police on Tuesday.

One incident involved a company operating at the Batu Kawah New Township which suffered tens of thousands of ringgit in losses after its office was broken into.

An employee arrived for work around 9am and found the front door of the office had been forced open by thieves, who carted away computers, printers, scanners, air conditioning units, a cash box containing RM800, power tools and other equipment.

Another break-in occurred at a Batu Kawah apartment complex when a 30-year-old IT executive returned to his unit around 8pm and saw his bedroom door had been forced open.

A check revealed that the thieves had stolen five desktop computers, a monitor and a printer.

Total loss was estimated at nearly RM10,000.

Meanwhile, a nurse staying at Semaba Park also became a victim when she arrived home and found it had been ransacked.

The 22-year-old discovered the rear door being forced open at around 9.30pm.

She lost two laptops, a flat screen television and about RM500 in cash in the incident.

Similarly, a pensioner from Jalan Kempas lost an estimated RM14,000 in cash and jewellery when his house was broken into on Monday.

The 65-year-old man learned of the incident when he arrived home and saw the front door had been forced open.

A check showed that the only things missing from his house were RM5,000 in cash and an estimated RM9,000 worth of jewellery.
