Penang strike gold in synchronised swimming event

KUALA LUMPUR: The Penang synchronised swimming team won gold in the technical routine team event at the Bukit Jalil National Aquatic Centre yesterday.

The team from the ‘Pearl of the orient’ collected 179.10 points beating Negeri Sembilan which took the silver with 172.16 points.

The bronze went to the Federal Territory team with 132.75 points.

“We prepared and trained for almost a year to acquire the skill in this event. We are very happy and satisfied with this achievement,”  Penang team captain Leong Jie Xi told Bernama, here yesterday.

It was also the first time that Leong, 17, participated in the Malaysian Games. His next aspiration is to take part in the South East Asian Games.

A total of two gold, two silver and two bronze medals were up for grabs at the national aquatic centre in the technical routine team event and free routine team event respectively. — Bernama
