KUCHING: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission’s (MACC) investigation into Chief Minister Pehin Abdul Taib Mahmud would clear him of all accusations of corruption, said Datuk Dr Stephen Rundi Utom.
The state Barisan Nasional (BN) and Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) secretary-general is also confident that the investigation would not tarnish Sarawak’s image.
“I do (believe Taib is innocent). I don’t think (it will affect the image of Sarawak.) We cannot prejudge whatever it is. We leave it to the authorities to prove it. As of now, I think not much comment from us,” he told reporters after launching a function yesterday.
He was commenting on confirmation from MACC commissioner Datuk Seri Abu Kassim Mohamed that the anti-graft agency was investigating Taib.
“Well, any reports or information, not proven, is still allegation. Until it is proven, it is allegation.
“It is not a matter of whether we are aware of not. This is the authority. They have the right to investigate, so they investigate.”
On whether he or other state Barisan Nasional leaders would facilitate the investigation or give statements, Dr Rundi said: “You’re questioning me now. Yes, we will. We will.”
