LONG LAMA, Baram: Telang Usan assemblyman Dennis Ngau Jok said the people’s quality of life in the remote and rural area depends on the service given to them by the government.
During a visit to Long Lama Health Clinic in Long Lama, Baram last Wednesday, he said: “The population is increasing and if we look at the number of new patients in our clinics and hospitals, it is also increasing.”
According to him, health related services, especially for residents in rural area such as in Telang Usan constituency, are important as residents there do not have other alternative to get medical treatment.
Therefore, he said immediate action had to be taken by the authority to tackle problems such as a rundown building and lack of medical officers on duty.
“I hope the authority concerned can respond immediately on such issues as it involves patients’ security and comfort,” he said.
Dennis also said that several years ago, there was a doctor serving at the clinic but now the clinic only has a medical assistant and several nurses.
“Nearby villagers are also coming here for medical treatment and we all hope the clinic can provide them with good service,” he said.
This is also important so that some patients do not have to be referred to the general hospital as this is time consuming because the nearest hospitals are in Marudi and Miri, which are about four to five hours away.
Also present during Dennis’ visit were Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu Telang Usan Women Wing chief Elizabeth Deng and local community leaders.
