KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysian Armed Forces chief Tan Sri Azizan Ariffin paid a farewell visit to Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak at the Prime Minister’s Office in Parliament, yesterday.

Azizan will end his service on June 15 after having served the armed forces for 41 years.

He was appointed as the 15th Armed Forces Chief in September 2009, and is the only Royal Malaysian Air Force Chief to be chosen to lead the armed forces.

Meanwhile, when met by reporters, Azizan said during the meeting the Prime Minister had conveyed his appreciation for his contribution in ensuring the safety and comfort of Malaysians.

“As an army officer who has served for 41 years, what more can I say, but I think he is pleased with all that was carried out as a result of his directives since he (Najib) was Defence Minister then and Prime Minister now.

“What we have done is the best for the security and wellbeing of Malaysian citizens,” he said.

Meanwhile, Azizan hoped that the new Armed Forces Chief would continue the efforts carried out in the past and ensure the government’s aspirations were realised in the future. — Bernama
