MACHANG: The Kelantan Wildlife and National Parks Department (Perhilitan) is keeping an eye on a group of elephants that is destroying crops and scaring residents in a few villages located at the Ulu Sat forest reserve.
A senior ranger, Salehuddin Mohd Yusuf, said eight rangers led by him had taken up residence in the villages to assist the residents.
“Last night we detected about six elephants entering a village near a Felcra plantation but they went back to the Ulu Sat forest,” he told reporters here, yesterday.
Last month the department caught a 2.5 tonne male elephant, believed to be from the same group, and was relocated to the Kelantan National Park. — Bernama
