TAWAU: The government’s aim to have a Territorial Army Company (TAC) in each of the 222 parliamentary constituencies in the country is on track, said Malaysian Reserve Force director-general Maj-Gen Datuk Fazlurrahman Mohamad.

He said there were currently 182 territorial army companies with the remaining 40 to be set up by year end to fulfil the force’s Key Performance Indicator (KPI) target.

“Presently, there are about 57,000 personnel throughout the country but only seven per cent comprise of the Chinese community. We are encouraging them to join,” he told reporters at a dinner on Monday organised by TAC here to fete his retirement after 39 years’ service in the Malaysian Armed Forces.

Also present were Territorial Army 516th Regiment commander Brig-Gen Tan Sri Liew Yun Fah.

Fazlurrahman added that the department is also in the process of setting up a Medical Specialist Regiment involving medical specialists from universities in the country. — Bernama
