KANGAR: A former headmaster was sentenced to 45 months imprisonment yesterday by the High Court here in an appeal on a judgement by the Kangar Sessions Court on March 26 last year.

Judicial Commissioner Mohd Zaki Abdul Wahab sentenced Ahmad Ismail, 57, to 15 months on each of three counts of cheating and ordered the sentences to run concurrently.

The former headmaster of Sekolah Rendah Kebangsaan (SRK) Sri Perlis was charged under Section 420 of the Penal Code on three counts of cheating the treasurer of the Perlis Schools Headmasters Council, Daud Mat Isa, in 2000 by inducing him to hand over RM4,570 in cash. The Kangar Sessions Court had acquitted Ahmad on March 26 last year.

The prosecution was led by Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) Deputy Public Prosecutor Iznina Hanim Hashim while Muhammad Jamil Shafie represented Ahmad.

Mohd Zaki allowed Ahmad a bond of RM10,000 with one surety and a stay of execution while his appeal was heard in the Court of Appeals. — Bernama
