Sabah BN parties advised not to raise issues openly

KUALA PENYU, Sabah: Barisan Nasional (BN) component party leaders and members in Sabah have to step up the momentum to ensure that the state remains the “fixed deposit” of the coalition in the next general election, Deputy Housing and Local Government Minister Datuk Seri Lajim Ukin said.

He said it was hoped that issues which could undermine the BN’s strength, including claims by BN component parties for electoral seats, would not be raised or discussed openly in the media.

“Our focus should be on empowering our parties as well as fulfilling the responsibilities to our members and the party,” he told reporters after launching the Tempurung polling district “Juara Rakyat” programme near here.

Lajim, who is also Beaufort Umno Division chairman, was asked to comment on the issue of claims over allocation and distribution of electoral seats by BN component parties in Sabah which was raised in the print media.

He said that though component parties had the right to state their views on the allocation of seats, open statements in the media could aggravate the situation and affect the momentum of BN’s unity in the state.

“This issue should be raised at a closed discussion and decided by the BN leaders,” he said. — Bernama
