KUCHING: Registration for St Joseph’s Private Primary and Secondary Schools received very good response, with Form One class and one Primary level class had been fully occupied.

Director Gerald Lee said they had received overwhelming number for Form One class of which 70 places were filled up, while the rest would have to go through assessment tests before getting an offer.

“The registration for Primary One and Two is still in progress. We have filled up one class and we are now taking in entries for second class.

“Only classes for Primary One and Two, and Form One will start next year. We want to make it clear that we are not privatising the current St Joseph school but building a new private school,” he said when interviewed by The Borneo Post yesterday.

He added that the private school also offers Mandarin subject, and puts great emphasis on the teaching of English.

Moreover, students will study about religion and character building.

The school will utilise St Joseph’s Parish Tuition Centre in 2012, before moving to its own new building in 2013.

According to an earlier news report, the private schools accept boys and girls of all religious and racial background.

It will be a single session school with lessons activities plus development of soft skills such as creative arts — music, drama and dance, and the nurturing of interpersonal skills and leadership qualities are all provided in the holistic education.

St Joseph’s Private School will follow the KBSR and KBSM national curriculum where Bahasa Malaysia is the medium of instruction.

The school will utilise the Singapore syllabus for English. Apart from teaching Mathematics and Science in Bahasa Malaysia, the school will also explain the two subjects to students in English.
