KUCHING: Two motions from the opposition will be presented during the State Legislative Assembly (DUN) sitting from June 20 to 29.

Speaker Dato Sri Mohd Awang Nassar said the motions under Standing Order 23, were related to the usage of money in the just-concluded state election (Motion dated May 30) and Malaysian Anti Corruption Agency (MACC) investigation on the Office of the Chief Minister (Motion dated June 13).

The motions would be tabled by State DAP chairman, Wong Ho Leng.

“The august house acknowledges that the two motions will be debated in the chamber and he (Ho Leng) has 10 days to comply with the matter,” Asfia said.

To a question, Asfia said that the house might consider the motion to be heard but whether they would be debated was up to the prerogative of the house and the Speaker.

Asfia said the house had yet to receive any motion from the Barisan Nasional (BN) backbenchers.

On a related issue, a total of 101 questions are directed at the Chief Minister’s Office, making it the highest number of questionnaires to be asked in this sitting.

In total, there would be 355 questionnaires, 307 jotted replies and 48 written replies, Asfia said, adding that 10 questionnaires had been rejected or considered “out of order”.

On the number of opposition members in the 71-member august house, Asfia said they only numbered 15.

“The largest number (of opposition members) was in 1987 with 20 out of 48.”

His advice to all assemblymen: Adhere to the standing orders and there is no reason to be rowdy during the sitting.
