New concrete bridge to give villagers access to farms

RANAU: Villagers of Kampung Paginatan and Kampung Paus who normally used the hanging bridge to go to their farms, will soon be provided with a concrete bridge.

Public Works Department senior assistant director Ir Liew Vun Shin said the 110-meter bridge which will span across the Liwagu River near Kampung Nabutan, about 30 kilometers from Ranau town, is in the final stage of planning before construction begins in August this year.

“The main factor delaying the construction is the survey of the soil structure of the site location which has to be done using metal pilings up to 45 metres deep,” he said at a briefing for Rural Development Minister Datuk Dr Ewon Ebin and the residents of Kampung Vulanut yesterday.

Construction work would take one and a half years, he said, adding the survey needed to be undertaken first to ensure the soil stability of the area.

Meanwhile, Ewon said the RM14 million bridge financed by the State Government, would facilitate easy access to the residents of several nearby villages to their farms located across the Liwagu River.
