KUCHING: The Sarawak branch of Malaysian Malay Contractors’ Association (PKMM) has admitted that the delay in the closing of final financial account experienced by Kejuruteraan Rasshin Sdn Bhd is not an isolated case.
Its chairman Abang Abdul Nasser Abang Hadari disclosed that a handful of PKMM members also suffered similar predicament when they dealt with projects under the Ministry of Education (MoE).
“We sympathise with Kejuruteraan Rasshin Sdn Bhd for the 5-year ordeal and we are urging the MoE to seriously look into solving the problems faced by the Bumiputera contractors due to the lackadaisical attitude of their staff and their irresponsible appointed Project Management Consultant for delaying in closing the account of many of their past projects,” he said when met recently.
He said this to comment on the predicament faced by Class A Bumiputera company, Kejuruteraan Rasshin Sdn Bhd, whose case was published in The Borneo Post last Thursday.
Nasser, however, said he was glad that Education Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin was very helpful when approached by the association on the matter on behalf of the members.
Nasser said the association was willing to help Kejuruteraan Rasshin Sdn Sdn and also other Bumiputera companies in Sarawak if they faced similar problems.
He, however, said that PKMM could not act based only on reports published in the newspaper because they would not have the necessary knowledge related to the particular cases.
“We only received unofficial complaint over the matter and therefore we cannot assist promptly if the contractors fail to come forward to tell us their problem officially.
“We advise those contractors having long back-logged matters to put forward their cases to the minister’s office before making any assumption,” he said, adding that the companies concerned should also submit a copy of their submissions to PKMM to enable them to do follow-ups with the ministry.
Nasser, who is also the association’s national vice-president, said the contractors could always contact PKMM for any advice or assistance.
