THE Land Custody and Development Authority (LCDA) Ordinance 2011 amendment will enable LCDA to be more effective in administering native land development and boost confidence of investors.

Debating on the LCDA Amendment Bill 2011, Balai Ringin assemblyman Snowdan Lawan said that the amendment would also reduce tedious court proceedings which could discourage investors.

“This proper and fair amendment to the present ordinance will result in LCDA functioning effectively to benefit the native landowners and at the same time offering conducive environment for investors to participate in the development of our state,” he said at the August house yesterday.

“The cumbersome court proceedings that involved many cases will definitely put investors off and literally chase them away,” said Snowdan.

He added that the tabling of the amendments was timely in order to minimise politicising of Native Customary Land (NCL) issues.

Snowdan also called on the opposition to act responsibly in their criticism of LCDA and not deprive native land owners a chance to participate in government assisted development.

“Obstructing them from participating in the government assisted development will deprive them of their only chance of ever making good. Eventually they are the ones who will lose out, being deprived of development while the politicians who capitalise on their so called “plight” have nothing to lose,” he stated.
