Meradong rep’s dress code receives criticism

MERADONG assemblywoman Ting Tze Fui’s outfit in the august House yesterday came in for criticism by Asajaya assemblyman Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah.

Ting’s cropped white blazer, which stood out from other dark attires during the sitting, seemed to have irked Abdul Karim.

“We follow the Westminster system, they (opposition elected representatives) are supposed to be properly attired,” he said.

Although obviously directing his comment at Ting, Abdul Karim however said he was not questioning the member of Meradong.

“I can see that she’s properly attired and she looks very beautiful today with a tight jacket. Unfortunately, Datuk Seri Speaker, I feel that she’s not properly attired for this august House.

“Because she should know, as a lawyer, if she were to appear before a court, the judge would have her taken off because of what she’s wearing today…that is in white.

“She should wear something solemn…black or dark grey. So, Datuk Seri Speaker, I would like to seek some kind of advice on this,” he said before continuing his debate on the Land Custody and Development Authority (LCDA) Amendment Bill 2011.

During the exchange, Ting was heard defending herself but was asked to sit down.
