Welfare Department renders assistance to single mothers

STATE Welfare Department will assist any single mothers or abandoned women who have many children under their care, aged 18 years and below.

These also apply to sick and disabled children.

Minister of Social Development and Urbanisation, Tan Sri William Mawan said even though the special assistance was not really included, but the ministry will assist to its best to ensure those groups are well taken care of.

“However, the assistance is on a temporary basis until the family’s household has increased,” he said.

Responding to a query from Sharifah Hasidah Sayeed Aman Ghazali (BN- Semariang), Mawan said the assistance will be stopped once the children reach 18 years of age.

Mawan said the move was to reduce the dependence on government and giving enough option for the ministry to give aid to another group.

He added the ministry will notify the group with an official letter through the respective community leaders soon.
