Rais: Attempts to revive communism plot to seize power unlawfully

KUALA LUMPUR: Attempts by certain quarters to revive communism in the country are a plot to seize power unlawfully by poisoning the minds of the people, Information, Communications and Culture Minister Datuk Seri Dr Rais Yatim said yesterday.

He said the plot reflected that the perpetrators had resorted to reviving the outlawed ideology after finding they had no other way of influencing the people.

“Communism is outlawed and not recognised in Malaysia, and this spirit is enshrined in the national struggle, the constitution and democratic practices.

“It is not only outlawed in Malaysia but also in Singapore, Brunei and other countries. This (revival of communism) should not emerge again,” he told reporters at the lobby of Parliament, here.

Dr Rais, who is a member of the Umno Supreme Council, said the matter should not be toyed with or used as fodder in politics, and stern action should be taken against those involved.

The minister called on rational-thinking people to rise and oppose the plot. — Bernama
