TAWAU: Kalabakan Umno Youth, Kampung Perdana Umno branch, Kelab Sukan Komuniti Sebatik and Tawau Amateur Boxing Association lodged their respective police reports against Bersih’s proposed demonstration here yesterday.

Kalabakan Umno Youth divisional chief Mohd Gasing Saling said it becomes a responsibility for them to lodge the police report about the demonstration believed to be held in Tawau on July 19, this year.

Mohd Gasing said the demonstration which was originally to be held in Kota Kinabalu has been changed to Tawau and it was also believed that the demonstration will be held at Sri Tanjung, Takada and Sin On markets involving 1,000 people.

He told reporters this after the four bodies lodged their respective police reports yesterday.

“We take the initiative to lodge our police reports opposing the Bersih demonstration in Tawau and hope the district police to take stern action against Bersih demonstration. We also hope the police would not issue any permit to the organisers to hold the demonstration.

“We also urge all Tawau residents to stay away from the demonstration,” Mohd Gasing said.

Mohd Gasing also requested Radio Malaysia Tawau to disseminate information about the negative effects of the demonstration on the community.

Meanwhile, Unmo Kampung Perdana branch chief Astani Patola disclosed that they had lodged the police report with the view to protecting the community as well as to keep youngsters away from being involved in ‘gangsterism’ culture.
