ALOR SETAR: Kedah Umno has lodged a police report over an incident involving vandals who defaced the party’s logo at Bangunan Tunku in Jalan Tunku Ibrahim here.

The logo was found sprayed with yellow paint.

State Umno asset manager Salleh Saad, accompanied by three other party members, made the report at the Kota Setar police headquarters at 10.50am yesterday.

He told reporters the building’s security guard alerted him on the defaced logo.

State Umno liaison chief Datuk Ahmad Bashah Md Hanipah said the defacement was a provocation by some people who were unhappy that the party was against the illegal rally scheduled on July 9.

Meanwhile, a ‘roti canai’ stall at a nearby restaurant was also defaced with yellow paint.

In Seremban (Negeri Sembilan), 20 non-governmental organisations (NGOs) yesterday lodged a police report against the illegal rally scheduled for July 9.

State MCA secretary Datuk Lim Fui Ming, accompanied by 20 representatives of the NGOs, made the report at the Seremban police headquaters about 11am.

“It does not matter who organised it, wheter it is Perkasa or otherwise, we want the police to take action against the unlawful assembly,” he told a press conference.

Lim said illegal rallies should be done away with as they could undermine security, economy and tourism.

“We hope the police will not only prevent this from happening in Kuala Lumpur or Seremban but also in the rest of the country to ensure the people live in peace and harmony.

The NGOs included Gabungan Persatuan Keturunan Cina Negeri Sembilan, Persatuan Peniaga-Peniaga Kecil Negeri Sembilan, Persatuan Belia Bersatu Bandar Seremban and Persatuan Tamilar Sangam Seremban.

In Johor Baharu, the Johor Ex-Army Association yesterday lodged a police report against the scheduled illegal rally this Saturday.

Its president, Kamis Mohd Noor, made the report at the Tampoi police station here about 10am.

He was accompanied by about 50 members from 17 association branches in the state.

Speaking to reporters, Kamis said the report was lodged as illegal assemblies could spark unrest, cause destruction of property and even loss of lives. — Bernama
