20 restaurants to take part in inaugural KK Food Festival

KOTA KINABALU: Food lovers can expect to be spoilt for choice during the inaugural Kota Kinabalu Food Festival from July 9 to 22.

Themed ‘A Tasty Turn of Events’, the KK Food Fest will provide the opportunity for locals to feast on special delicacies at 20 participating restaurants here.

The food festival, organized by Malaysia’s premier online lifestyle magazine, LifeAndStyle.com.my, aims to promote varied dining options in the city.

Executive director of MaxxMedia Sdn Bhd, Elson Kho, said the food festival is not an exhibition but an event happening at all the 20 participating restaurants where their chefs offer special menus only during the two-week period.

The participating restaurants include Bella Italia, Boutique Cupcakes, Chub’s Grill, Emperor’s Delight, English Tea House, Flames, Huge Cafe, Jazzmine Restaurant, La Fuente, Le Safran, Mangen Mitu, Nagisa Japanese Restaurant, Peppino, Sailors’ Cafe, Su Ra Sang, Sushi Tei, The Chinese Restaurant, The Hut BBQ Garden (Likas), Wojamama Japanese Restaurant and Yu Cafe.

Food lovers also stand a chance to win cookbooks, dining vouchers, travel gifts, hotel stays and cooking appliances when they dine at the participating restaurants.

Patrons are required to collect stamps from the participating restaurants where they dine at and submit the completed form to the organizers’ office by email, fax or mail by July 31.

Winners will be announced on www.kkfoodfest.com on August 15.

Patrons can also vote for their favourite restaurant on the website from July 9 till 31.

In conjunction with the food festival, food lovers also have the chance to take part in the four fringe events.

On July 10, Asian Tourism International College (ATIC) students will present live their culinary and pastry skills to the public at Gaya Street from 8am to noon.

On July 12, Wendy Hutton of Lemon Grass Cooking School will be conducting a special market tour and cooking demonstration at the Aussie Barbeque and bar.

Also on July 12 is a wine and dine evening with CornerStone, organized by wine and spirits supplier Kwong Hin at Nagisa Japanese Restaurant at The Hyatt Regency Kinabalu, priced at RM180 nett inclusive of a four-course Japanese dinner paired with wines by CornerStone.

On July 16, vintner and wine educator Meng Tan will conduct a half-day ‘Introduction to Wine’ class from 1.30pm to 6.30pm at Sutera Harbour. The class priced at RM150 nett, is inclusive of tastings of four white wines and four red wines.

The Food Fest finale will be held on July 22, 6pm at Shangri-La’s Tanjung Aru Resort and Spa. Tickets are priced at RM250 per pax. To purchase, please contact 088-719787.
