6 killed, 10 missing in Nepal landslides

KATHMANDU: Monsoon rains triggered landslides that have buried parts of two remote villages in Nepal killing six people. At least 10 others are believed to be buried in the debris.

Rukum district chief government administrator Khrisna Prasad Adhikari said a landslide today buried 10 houses in Purtingkada some 320km west of Kathmandu.

Villagers have recovered three bodies and rescued five people. Ten people are still believed to be buried in the debris.

In another landslide in Nuwakot Thanksingh village, 50km north of Kathmandu, three were killed and five injured.

Nepal’s monsoon season is expected to last until September. – Agencies
