MIRI: Sarawak Energy Berhad (SEB) is undergoing a major transformation to move the company forward.
SEB Miri regional manager Yusri Safri who disclosed this yesterday said SEB targetted a generating capacity from the present over 1,000 mega watts to about 6,000 mega watts in five to six years’ time.
“SEB wants to move forward, not just by shifting a gear or two, but moving up by leaps and bounds,” he said at SEB Miri Safety Week 2011 yesterday.
He said this major transformation for the company call for almost super human effort from every SEB staff and employee to ensure success.
Touching on safety, Yusri said Health Safety and Environment (HSE) was a key principle to focus on to ensure business processes were conducted safely without harm to employees, the public and the environment.
“Employees must adopt a safe work culture where safety is of utmost priority in our daily work, right from the planning and design stage through to the operation and maintenance process,” he said.
He added that electrical accidents were largely preventable through safe operating practice or behaviour.
“Use safety shoes, wear safety belts and wear gloves when doing switching. They are provided for by the company because the company is concerned about employee safety.
“If accidents happen, you will be punished as you did not abide by the safety regulations, and failed to wear the protective gear provided.
“This is an offence, not only in SEB, but also punishable under the Occupational Safety Health Administration (OSHA) laws,” he pointed out further.
Meanwhile, yesterday’s ceremony also witnessed the handover of donation amounting to RM5,000 from SEB to SJK (C) Kee Tee, Long Lama to assist in the setup of its library.
Among the activities held throughout SEB’s safety week were safety talks, and a blood donation drive to help Miri Hospital Blood Bank top up its blood supply.
