True nature of opposition to oppose reform – Noh Omar

TUARAN: It is the true nature of the opposition to oppose reform introduced by the government as it does not want to see the country progress under the Barisan Nasional (BN), said Agriculture and Agro-based Industry Minister Datuk Seri Noh Omar.

Commenting on the opposition’s objection to the proposed use of biometric system in the next general election, he said the opposition had been undermining the development strides to gain political mileage.

“When the Penang Bridge was proposed, the opposition said it was not necessary and a waste of public fund. But now the second bridge had to be built to ease congestion on the Penang Bridge.

“When the Subang Airport was proposed, they asked what for as we had no plane yet then. They also chided the KL International Airport project. But now it is not enough to cater for flights, so much so the LCCT had to be built.

“Ultimately, if we listen to the opposition, we will not be developed and lagging behind,” he told reporters after visiting the state Fama Marketing Complex in Telipok near here yesterday.

PAS and PKR leaders had opposed the biometric system, arguing that it would not be practical as it was still new and untested, costly, and might be defective and opened to manipulation.

They wanted the Election Commission to implement the use of the indelible ink as it was a tried and tested method as proven in other countries.

Noh, who is also Umno supreme council member, said the opposition would not be happy to see Malaysia being a peaceful country with the economy flourishing and the income of the people rising.

“They want to see the country in chaos and the economy weaken so that they can say, ‘look, if we take over the reins, the country will prosper’,” he added. – Bernama
