KOTA KINABALU: Parti Bersatu Rakyat Sabah (PBRS) welcomes Parti Bersatu Sabah’s (PBS) proposal to form a confederation with PBRS and UPKO within the Barisan Nasional (BN) framework to work closely and present their common views on the issue of transient population and fraudulent identification cards (ICs) to the federal government.

“If the formation of the proposed confederation is needed to holistically strengthen the unity among Sabahans, and thereafter to free Sabah from the menace of illegal immigrants, PBRS welcomes the positive move,” said PBRS secretary general Datuk Dr Johnson Tee.

He pointed out the issue of eradication of illegal immigrants in Sabah has always been the concern of PBRS.

“Our president Tan Sri Joseph Kurup has brought up this issue to the federal leaders on many occasions and he will continue to take up the case as and when he has any slight opportunity until the matter is solved.

“PBRS believes in solving the problem via the higher authority and is willing to cooperate with any political parties to solve the complex problem of illegal immigrants in Sabah,” he said in a statement yesterday.

PBS secretary general Datuk Henrynus Amin, who proposed the loose confederation on Sunday, pointed out that PBS and other BN component political parties, including Umno Sabah, have the common agenda to fight for the rights of Sabah and the people.

“It is time for those in BN Sabah to be closely working together rather than working along party lines to pursue the serious allegation against any department or official involved in the heinous crime of issuing fraudulent ICs,” he said.
