KUDAT: The body of a Korean teenage university student, who went missing while surfing in the waters off the tip of Borneo (Simpang Mengayau) on Saturday, was found yesterday morning.

The victim, identified as Jae Deok Hwang, 18, was found by the Fire and Rescue Services personnel about 91 metres from where he was first reported missing.

Kudat Fire and Rescue Station chief Jamaludin Hussin said his men found the body around 8.30am yesterday.

“The three-day operation involved the Malaysia Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) and Marine Police at the waters off Simpang Mengayau,” he said, adding that the victim’s body was handed over to the police and then taken to the Kudat District Hospital for a post-mortem.

Meanwhile, the victim’s parents and family members, who arrived at Simpang Mengayau from Korea on Saturday, were at the scene and hospital to identify and claim the victim’s body.
