Two top awards to honour women’s achievements

KUALA LUMPUR: In line with the call for woman’s empowerment and gender equality in Malaysia by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak, two prestigious awards have been created to honour the momentous achievements of women in the country.

They are The Prime Minister’s Award for Woman Entrepreneur 2011 and The Prime Minister’s Award for Woman Social Activist 2011.

Both awards are the brainchild of the Ministry of Women, Family and Community Development, in recognition of the remarkable contributions made by Malaysian women.

The Prime Minister’s Award for Woman Entrepreneur 2011 recognises the participation and contribution of women towards the country’s GDP growth.

It acknowledges a successful businesswoman who has contributed to success of her company and played an important role in the development and empowerment of women.

The Prime Minister’s Award for Woman Social Activist 2011 acknowledges a prominent woman activist who has been, or is currently and actively promoting a cause that is in line with the 13 sectors of the Women’s Development Action Plan.

Anyone may nominate a candidate, including members of the general public.

The Ministry of Women, Family and Community Development may also solicit nominations for activists who have come to its attention.

Finalists will be asked to submit further supporting documents as part of the judging requirements.

The nomination of these awards were officially launched by Minister of Women, Family and Community Development, Senator Datuk Seri Shahrizat Abdul Jalil.
