Singapore Presidential Election nomination day today

SINGAPORE: Former Deputy Prime Minister Dr Tony Tan has arrived at the Nomination Centre at the People’s Association headquarters on King George’s Avenue, AsiaOne reports today.

Tan Kin Lian, the former chief of NTUC Income, was the first potential candidate to arrive.

All four presidential hopefuls are expected to present their nomination papers to the Returning Officer at the Nomination Centre today between 11am and 12 noon.

The nomination papers and certificates must be submitted in person and in duplicate to the Returning Officer Yam Ah Mee, Chief Executive Director of the People’s Association. The presidential hopefuls must be accompanied by their proposer, seconder and at least four assentors.

The police will be providing security coverage in and around the Nomination Centre. Bags and other belongings brought into the Nomination Centre will be subjected to checks.

No placards, flags, or banners of any of the candidates are allowed to be displayed in the Nomination Centre before the close of nomination proceedings at 12.30pm.

The President is the Head of State and holds office for a term of six years.
