Tawau police cripple theft gang

TAWAU: Police here believe they have crippled a car and motorcycle theft gang with the arrest of one of its four members on April 14.

Tawau police chief ACP Ibrahim Chin said the suspect, a 20-year-old local man, was arrested in the vicinity of Damai Road, around 4.30pm and it was revealed during questioning that the suspect had been involved in seven theft cases in the district.

Following the arrest, police recovered four 4-wheel-drive vehicle tyres with rims from the suspect. — Bernama

“The suspect was held for a vehicle theft in 2010 and this arrest shows that he is unrepentant,” Ibrahim told reporters yesterday.

He said there had been 67 cases of motorcycle theft, 26 car thefts and more than 10 lorries and vans reported stolen between Jan 1 and Aug 18, this year.

Most of the vehicles stolen were four-wheel-drives. — Bernama
