KUCHING: More events will be planned for the Kuching Integrated Recreational Centre (KIRC) at the Civic Centre car park in an effort to make Kuching a more liveable and vibrant city.

Sarawak Lawn Tennis Association (SLTA), which manages the KIRC, also planned to put up more facilities in the near future
for greater public convenience.

These were amongst the matters mentioned by SLTA president Dato Patrick Liew during a courtesy call on Kuching City North Commission (DBKU)’s newly appointed mayor Datuk Abang Wahap Abang Julai recently.

Liew also said as SLTA is sited in the jurisdiction of DBKU, SLTA would like to contribute more by giving back to society and the surrounding community in the form of recreation as well as organising community services projects.

“Hopefully with the cooperation and support of DBKU, SLTA will work out more events to turn KIRC into a vibrant centre,” he said. Also present during the visit to Wahap’s office were SLTA executive committee members.

KIRC, which was officially opened by the Chief Minister on March 12, has three futsal courts, two basketball courts, a badminton court, two sepak takraw courts and two volleyball courts as well as an open area for Tai Chi/ Wushu exercise and jogging track.

It is maintained and managed by SLTA on a 10-year lease. SLTA clubhouse, located nearby, boasts 12 tennis courts and a venue for many international junior tournaments.
