New Labuan-KK ferry operator apologises over delay

LABUAN:  Labuan Mainland Link (LML) Sdn Bhd, one of the companies appointed by the Sabah government to operate the Labuan-Menumbok-Labuan roll on-roll off ferry services, has apologised to the public for the delay in starting its operation.

Its executive director Mohd Zaid Mohd Zain told Bernama yesterday that his company had yet to receive banking facility required to enable the vendor to deliver the ferry.

He said the company had approached another bank to secure the facility and said that he was confident the bank would be able to accommodate.

“We understand the public’s expectation on this service and as you know it was on this note that we had applied for this licence in the first place.

“Understandably the business require large investment and financing, therefore it is only imperative that a longer time is required to realise the delivery of the service to the public, hopefully by end of this year,” he said.

Labuan-based LML Sdn Bhd and Sabah-based Juta Bonus Sdn Bhd were granted approval by the Sabah government earlier this year to provide the service following numerous complaints about Labuan Ferry Corporation, which has been accused of monopolising the service for over a decade.

Hundreds of passengers cried foul for not getting a place for their vehicles to the mainland of Sabah for the Hari Raya due to the limited place available.  – Bernama
