KUCHING: People’s Progressive Party (PPP) state chairman John Lau has been elected as the International President Elect in the Toastmaster International’s (TI) Board of Directors for the 2011-12 term.

Lau, who is a member of the Kuching Connections Toastmasters Club and Kuching Mandarin Toastmasters Club, was the first vice-president in the previous term.

Prior to being elected as the vice-president, Lau has served many distinguished positions in the region, including being International Director for two years from 2005.

He joined Toastmasters in September 1990 and since then he has achieved 10 times Distinguished Toastmaster that is the highest award in TI that a member can achieve.

Lau is to assume the post of Toastmasters International President 2012-2013 in August 2012.

The other members of the board of directors are International President Michael Notaro from US, First Vice-President George Yen (Taiwan) and Second Vice-President Mohammad Murad (Dubai).

The immediate Past International President is Pat Johnson from Victoria, British Columbia.

For the first time in the history of TI that members of its executive committee are made up of leaders from different countries.

TI shall be modernising its communication with members from around the world.

For the first time, the World Championship of Public Speaking and the Toastmasters Board briefing was streamed live recently.

At the open board briefing, the organisation Executive Director Dan Rex has announced a 12-hour membership services from 7am to 7pm (Pacific time).
