KOTA KINABALU: History has been told and nothing can change the facts. Kota Kinabalu Umno Division deputy chief Datuk Seruji Nawawi when saying this added that in fact, the communist terrorists were the ones who created havoc in the past.

He was responding to the alleged statement by Mohamad Sabu, or better known as Mat Sabu, during a political talk in Tasek Gelugor, Penang, on Aug 21, that the communist terrorists who attacked the Bukit Kepong police station in the 1950s were the true heroes of the country.

Mat Sabu, in his talk, had allegedly claimed that the communist terrorists who attacked and killed 25 police personnel and their families in the Bukit Kepong tragedy were the real heroes as they were actually fighting the British.

Mat Sabu was also alleged to have said that the nation’s former prime ministers, the late Tunku Abdul Rahman and the late Datuk Onn Jaafar, did not qualify to be called freedom fighters.

Expressing disappointment over the alleged remarks, Seruji said although they have different views in politics, Mat Sabu should not have changed the facts of history.

“The people at the time could not even accept communism, so how can we call them heroes? Instead of twisting facts, we should be thankful to our past leaders for they have fought hard to free us from the clutches of our enemies.

“It is so unbecoming for a Malaysian politician to make such a remark as it would only create confusion among the younger generation,” said Seruji during his Raya Open House, recently.
