LINGGA: Five houses in Rumah Merikan, Banting near here were washed away by the river after a landslide at 4am yesterday.
Five houses built by the bank of Sungai Banting collapsed after incessant heavy rain.
No injury or loss of lives were reported in the incident. The residents were able to run to safety but could only watch as their houses and belongings were swept downriver.
One of the houses drifted upstream following the high tide.
It is understood that the houses were ‘temporary’ shelters while the residents were waiting for a new longhouse to be completed.
