KOTA KINABALU: Sabah Progressive Party (SAPP) Api Api Women  chief Priscilla Chong has urged Sabah DAP assistant secretary Junz Wong to stop issuing statement which does not represent the stand of the DAP.

She pointed out that Wong’s recent statement that Malaysia is 48 years old and not 54 had contradicted DAP secretary general Lim Guan Eng’s statement.

“SAPP hopes Junz Wong will not only criticize Sabah Umno chairman Datuk Seri Musa Aman but also will be honest and criticise his own party leaders for also copying the Umno stand that this year’s is Malaysia is 54th birthday.

“Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng in his Merdeka message this year also mentioned the 54th National Day. Last year, he mentioned 53 years.

“In Sabah, especially Kota Kinabalu, we also see PAS’ banners proclaiming the 54th Merdeka. So, the Sabah DAP assistant secretary should be honest and consistent in criticising his own DAP leaders and PAS for ignoring Malaysia’s true history,” Chong cautioned.

On the September 16 issue, she said people still remembered that on September 1, 2008 Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) de factor leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim had pledged to declare September 16 a public holiday in all the five Pakatan-governed states.

She said Lim also had made a promise that September 16 in 2009 would definitely be declared a public holiday.

“But the promise was not fulfilled to the great disappointment of the people. Pakatan lost this excellent chance to prove that it is different from Umno-BN.

“It’s now too late because in 2010, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak made September 16 a national public holiday,” Chong said.
